4chan “outflanked”: ISD’s Jared Holt unpacks the controversial site to the New Yorker
ISD’s Jared Holt spoke to the New Yorker about the possible end of 4chan, the notorious message board long tied to extremist movements and online trolling.
The site, known for its deep and often toxic influence on internet culture, was recently taken offline following a hack. Jared explained that 4chan’s “pretty archaic internet infrastructure” made it especially vulnerable to disruption. He also noted that, despite its significant influence, the platform’s influence has diminished in recent years, as newer, more sophisticated platforms emerged.
“4chan had essentially been outflanked to the right,” he said.
