ISD’s Milo Comerford speaks to WIRED about Adolescence and platform accountability
Milo Comerford, ISD’s Director of Policy & Research (Counter-Extremism), spoke to WIRED about the new TV series Adolescence, which explores a young man’s online radicalisation.
Drawing on ISD research, Milo highlighted how platforms like YouTube can funnel users toward increasingly extreme content—including incel ideologies and white supremacist narratives. The article explores strategies to combat youth radicalisation including the potential of an outright ban of social media platforms. But as Milo notes, implementing rules which hold platforms accountable for their algorithms are likely a more effective solution.
